In brief
  • A September 2026 cost comparison finds no cheaper platform overall
  • TikTok creator cuts run 1 to 80 percent over a 6 percent fee
  • Counterfeit supplement cases show why seller identity matters

A September 30, 2026 Dashboardly comparison of TikTok Shop and Amazon costs showed retail price now carries creator payments and storage charges alongside growing and mixing costs. The analysis concluded that neither marketplace was cheaper or more profitable in every case. Sellers were advised to match product, fulfillment choice, promotion plan, and period before judging margin.

The background rule is simple enough for pharmacology readers. Affiliates get paid only when a claim converts, and fees apply whether or not the dose works. TikTok Shop permits brands to sell through affiliated creators in videos, live streams, and profile pages. Merchants choose a commission between 1% and 80% and may set separate rates for chosen creators or campaigns. Tiered terms can pay more at launch or pay more after creators pass sales thresholds.

Those payments rest on platform charges. TikTok Shop charges platform fees near 6%, which merchants need to include when they fix commissions. Flat collaborations may pair an advance of $20 to $10,000 with added commissions tied to performance. Fulfillment creates a further option between seller handled shipping and Fulfilled by TikTok, while Amazon divides work between merchant fulfillment and Fulfillment by Amazon.

Affiliate marketing now represents almost 10% of United States online retail, or $113 billion, based on a 2025 Performance Marketing Association study. TikTok group vertical director Donte Murry told Glossy that 77% of users search for the product they just saw in TikTok affiliate content, a figure that calls for a look at the method behind it. MySmile sold over $1 million of products through TikTok Shop during its first three months with affiliate creators.

Amazon supplies large search volume, yet its counterfeit history calls for care. In April 2023 NOW Foods found 11 different fake NOW supplements offered on Amazon by one seller. In that same month Fungi Perfecti found 23 different sellers on Amazon offering fakes of its Host Defense mushroom supplements. In August 2023, a counterfeit Bausch + Lomb PreserVision AREDS 2 Eye Vitamin and Mineral supplement was offered on Amazon.

Later events extended the record. In September 2023 fakes of Pure Encapsulations L-glutamine and NatureMD GutConnect 365 were found for sale on Amazon. In November 2023, a lawsuit named several parties accused of selling counterfeit Prevagen on Amazon. In October 2024 Fungi Perfecti won a court order that bars JT Best Deals from advertising or selling Fungi Perfecti products.

Laboratory results explain why the vendor matters as much as the label. NOW Foods testing found fake supplements held capsules of plain rice flour, while some samples held trace amounts of sildenafil. Fungi Perfecti fakes held undeclared gluten and soy, which genuine Host Defense products do not contain. Under the U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, the FDA allows supplements to be sold with no review or approval beforehand.

Amazon said it will stop commingling practices across its supply chain as of March 31, 2026, although the change covers only new inventory. An Amazon spokesperson said Amazon has a zero tolerance policy for counterfeit products, a label claim that invites a check of the evidence behind it. The next signal will be less visible than a product launch. Look at the seller name and assume brands build creator costs into the retail price.

Capsules change slowly from trial dose to store shelf. Marketplaces change fast from post to purchase. Knowing which system sits behind the transaction helps keep daily dosing steady.
